A Breath of Fresh Air
Carol is the kind of teacher for students who want to build a foundation from the ground up! Her nurturing nature and true gift is a breath of fresh air in a town that thrives on attitude and “coaching” more than true teaching! I’ve not only studied with Carol but have referred students of all ages who have noticed dramatic growth!

An Incredible and Diverse Vocal Teacher
I was referred to Carol after encountering voice problems during a recording session. I was unable to perform to my fullest because of vocal swelling from overuse and poor technique. After working with her for the last several months, not only am I able to consistently sing without restriction, but I can now sing longer and with much more accuracy. She has me doing things I never thought I could before, and I continue to learn more with each session.
Carol is an incredible and diverse vocal teacher, well versed in many different techniques and approaches that cater to the individual needs of students in every style. Her knowledge and passion for voice is exceeded only by her kindness as a person. It is a pleasure to be working with her and benefitting from her teaching.”
A Quality That Is Truly Inspiring
Carol possess a quality that very few teachers can lay claim to. That is, the ability to fully understand where a student is vocally and then look deeply into their greatest potential as a singer and performer, all the while holding this larger vision of them as she calls each towards it. It’s a quality that is truly inspiring, one that is reserved for Master Instructors.

She Has a Genuine Concern
Carol Tingle has gently guided our daughter on a journey of vocal self-discovery. Beyond Carol’s professional accomplishments and qualifications, she has a genuine concern for each student and the ability to help build on his or her own talent. Over the years I have not just witnessed my own daughter’s vocal growth but that of her fellow singers as well.

Whoever Said Nothing In Life Is Perfect Has Clearly Never Met Carol
Whether preparing our son for two successful auditions and solo performances with Los Angeles Opera, or guiding him through his voice change, Carol has given our son an unparalleled education on how to use his voice safely and skillfully. Just as important, his psyche and self-esteem have been nurtured and protected at all times. Whoever said nothing in life is perfect has clearly never met Carol. We can’t imagine a vocal instructor more engaged and well-versed in technique, vocal health, and the psychological elements required to be an outstanding singer.

Carol is Truly Fabulous
My teenage daughter has studied with Carol for four years. As a parent, I’m thrilled to see Katie enjoy her voice lesson each week, not only improving as a singer, but feeling great about herself; Carol’s focus is on artistic self-esteem just as much as music. As a music composer, I enjoy sitting in the lessons because I learn something new about vocal techniques and literature from Carol virtually every week. Carol is truly fabulous!

Her Teaching Style is Magical
I have been in and out of Carol Tingle’s life for 38 years; as a high school student and, later in life, as an adult voice student. Carol was, and still is, an inspiration to me as a singer, musician, and as a person. She cares deeply about each student that walks through her door and always gives them her undivided attention. I have never considered myself a soloist so my nerves were very present at every lesson when I had to sing alone in front of someone. However, after a few minutes of vocalizing, I was relaxed, inspired, happy, and having the time of my life. I always left her studio with a bounce in my step. After one lesson, Carol broke me of bad habits and had me singing songs that I never thought I could sing. Her teaching style is magical!

I Get That Out of Body Experience of Being in the Flow
I have been taking voice lessons from Carol for what seems like minutes, because the time just flies by. I get that out of body experience of totally being in the flow of happiness. Not only do I get a chance to breathe, sing the songs that I love from the American songbook, but I get encouragement, support, and helpful suggestions so that my vision of actually performing before an audience is not just a pipe dream.

Voice Teacher Extraordinaire
Carol is a voice teacher, extraordinaire! Her amazing techniques helped me find my true voice and to express my inner feeling in my singing. She is a splendid person who works at finding the steps to success in music and life. She has changed my life!

A Hard Act to Follow
I never have as felt and safe and encouraged in a vocal learning environment, as I do with Carol. It is clear that her years of teaching, provide a wealth of acquired knowledge, which she taps into in the blink of an eye, but it is her ability to appy that knowledge to me as an individul that is truly exceptional. I love that she does not attempt to change the nuances of my voice but rather amplifies them in every lesson by providing me with a new vocal tool with which to execute my aims with more confidence, clarity and tone. Anyone who can experience her warmth, and teaching style should!..As teachers go she’s a hard act to follow! She has given me the confidence to do things I would have never attempted ..And the tools to do them – Hands-down, one of the best professional decisions I have ever made was picking up the phone and calling Carol Tingle.
I Can’t Recommend Carol Enough
Carol has been my daughter’s voice teacher for almost five years and in that time she has grown immensely. Carol has given her the technical tools to help bring out the best of her natural gifts as a singer and, as importantly, she has helped her understand how to tell a story through a song. My daughter’s performances, in terms of technique, artistry and emotion, just keep on getting better and better. I have also seen Carol work with other students, and she seems to have an intuitive understanding of exactly what each singer needs that will help them grow more confident and assured as performers. I can’t recommend Carol high enough!

She Brought Out the Best
Carol has a remarkable way of bringing out a child’s best talents, not only vocally but personally. She taught our daughter respect for herself and others, confidence and teamwork through the vehicle of voice lessons. She brought out the best in Maggie vocally and we cannot thank her enough for what she has given our daughter.

The Bright Spot of Any Day
I have had the pleasure of taking lessons with Carol Tingle for several years. The classes have been stimulating and more than that, joyous, because she shares my love of performance. The bright spot of any day, Carol has taught me so many things about using my voice to its best advantage that I feel truly lucky to be working with her.

A Master at Uncovering Potential
Carol is a gifted teacher. She is a master at uncovering the potential and amplifying the skills of each of her students. She is extremely sensitive to her students’ needs and aspirations, and really knows how to encourage and build the confidence of each individual.
Over the past 10 years, Carol has used her gifts with my children to enhance their vocal capabilities and their personal confidence in themselves as musicians. Her devoted training has brought them to levels in which they are able to successfully compete in local and regional vocal competitions, and has prepared one for entry into the very selective UCLA Musical Theatre Program.

Carol Has Helped Me Grow
In teaching me the meanings of maturity, work ethic, responsibility, discipline, and perseverance, Carol Tingle has helped me grow in innumerable ways as both a performer and a person.

More Than a Voice Teacher
Carol was instrumental in both the musical and personal development of my two daughters. More than a voice teacher, Carol has been a mentor, friend, motivator, and enthusiastic supporter of all their musical activities. She has guided them in developing their ability, taste, style, and repertoire as performers of a wide array of musical genres. And she continues to serve as a touchstone for and champion of my daughter who has chosen to pursue her music studies. -Maggi Phillips, Ph.D.
A Consummate Voice Teacher
Carol Tingle is the consummate voice teacher. Carol is passionate about singing, devoted to her students, deeply knowledgeable about how human voices work, intensely curious in her own learning process, and committed to the creativity that grows between her and her students. She has a beautiful voice herself and continues to perform as well as teach. While working strenuously on the voice and singing, Carol never loses sight of the whole person. Opening up the voice is a vulnerable and delicate process requiring specific attunement to each individual. Her students can count on her loving, enthusiastic support, gently yet firm guidance. Years ago when Carol’s voice was seriously injured, she had to go through a long, minutely detailed pursuit of help from many well known sources – teachers, courses, books to resurrect her own voice. Now she brings this intimate knowledge to her students as they explore the throat gymnastics, tongue gyrations and visualizations needed to find their own individual sound. Carol knows how to help each person find their true voice and develop it. She brings her own musicality and understanding about performance to her students, thereby helping them develop their own expression. It is a joy to sing and make music with Carol.

Carol Taught Her to Sing Everything
I have an incredibly gifted singer and actress for a daughter who was taught by an equally gifted and incredibly kind and patient teacher. Carol has taught my now 16 year old daughter since she was 10. She took an extremely gifted actress with a big belt and nodules to match and taught her how to sing everything, in every voice with vocal health and endurance we never dreamed possible.Beanie has performed in 30 plays since she has been with Carol including professional theatre and many charity events. She has had the lead roles at her high school and has even been cast against type due to Carol being able to teach Beanie to sing soprano.
When looking for her voice teacher I interviewed five of the most well known teachers in L.A. including one who is the guru to all the rock stars and decided that Carol was the best teacher for Beanie. After her ent rescoped her vocal cords and saw the nodules disappear after working with Carol; he too started to recommend her.
Anyone should consider themselves lucky to find her and learn from her.

She Has Been a Godsend
Carol Tingle came into my life at a time of great emotional turmoil regarding my daughter’s vocal health. My 14 year old daughter, Kyla, had been singing since she was four years old at church and at school. The vocal demands of her first year in high school, however, led to frustrating and embarrassing vocal slips in the advanced solo work she was preparing at church for the choir’s spring tour. Our new ENT required that we meet with Carol in order to determine whether or not her vocal technique was contributing to the node she had developed on her vocal cord.
This vocal node diagnosis led us to Carol. I knew instantly, as we walked into her studio that we would be getting the help we needed. Carol’s welcome was so warm and reassuring, even before Kyla sang her first note. At a time when we were both scared and nervous, Carol’s incredibly compassionate and comforting persona put us at ease. We instantly felt as thought she had known us for years and cared about us as though we were beloved family members. We relaxed and got down to work trying to assess what was going on with Kyla’ voice.
At this point, things went from great to fabulous. Carol began working with Kyla to produce just the right kind of vocalizations to accurately assess where the node was on her vocal cord. She then turned her attention to Kyla’s technique. As it turns out, there were things that Kyla could do to relax into her singing and put less stress on her vocal cords. The process of figuring this out, however, was so specialized and detailed. I was amazed. Carol took Kyla through numerous warm-ups and exercises, working with her on just the slightest modifications in her vocal and body postures and breathing to improve the health of her sound and the quality of her singing. Kyla went from singing beautifully to singing beautifully with a professional quality. The work was not magic, but precise, expert, and scientific, all overshadowed with advanced artistry. I felt as though we were sitting with a true master of her craft. We were beyond lucky. We were blessed. Kyla’s node resolved and the ENT gave her a clean bill of health.
Over the next year or so, we continued to cross town in order to continue a relationship with Carol. She helps us keep an eye on Kyla’s vocal health, but she has done so much more than that. Although there was no longer a medical reason to work with us, Carol allowed us to come see her periodically just to check in. She continued to be as warm and welcoming as she was in the beginning. Kyla and I are always so excited when we know we are going to have as session with her. Carol has helped and challenged Kyla to advance vocally and strive to meet her true potential as a singer. If it were possible, we would schedule regular sessions with Carol, but time and distance just keep us wishing for more.
Because of Carol Tingle, Kyla is no longer afraid to sing and her mom is not afraid to let her. She has been a godsend.
